Cuthbert wildlife sanctuary

The Cuthbert wildlife sanctuary covers nearly six sq. km and can be reached through Rangat. Some flora and fauna species such as butterflies, pond herons, birds, stork billed kingfisher, and spotted deer are seen here. The sanctuary is the nestling ground for Pacific Ridley turtles, leatherback turtles, and Hawksbill. These are the four main turtles you will witness here.
During the long period of December and January, one can witness the tiny small turtles paddling towards the shoreline in Cuthbert beach as the female turtles crawl from the beach to lay their eggs. They dig a few meters away from the beach near the mangrove trees and sand to lay their eggs. These female turtles lay their 100-110 eggs on each nest and go back to sea.
Some of the activities a tourist can witness in Cuthbert beach. You get to see the hatching happening in the incubator of the Cuthbert wildlife sanctuary. The eggs and hatchlings come out of the shell only to go back to the sea where they hatch. The best time to visit the Cuthbert wildlife sanctuary is from October to April.

Cuthbert Bay Beach is 20kms away from Rangat Bazaar. Rangat is 170 km away from Port Blair by sea and 90kms away by land. Once you reach the Rangat Bazaar, you can board into a jetty to take you to the Cuthbert beach via mayabunder. One can also take a bus to the Rangat bazaar from Port Blair.
