It is a humble village in the northeast Indian state of Meghalaya, known as Cherrapunji. It is ideally situated approximately 54 kilometres southwest of the city of Shillong. The city lies high on the Shillong Plateau, on the everlasting hills of eastern Khasi. This extensive plateau is on average 1,480 m high and is situated up to 1,000 m above the gleaming floors of the surrounding valleys. The city itself is located at an altitude of 1260 m.
